A new series from Gomake/Basil Cantina

2020 is almost here and in India we are surely entering a golden age of international food renaissance. This blessing was once limited to Tier I metro cities in the likes of Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, however today we can say that global cuisines are slowly finding their ways into Tier II and Tier III cities as well. Pan Asian food which was once a rarity in India is now finding its coveted place in almost all Indian cities with a population greater than 3 lakhs. The same can be said about Mexican/Latin food which is quickly gaining steam for its spicy, lemony and colourful offerings.

And this is why we founded Basil Cantina (BC); we didn’t just want to witness this food revolution, we wanted to be a part of it. Basil Cantina wants to bring the best foods around the world with a gourmet attitude to a city that is slowly growing prominent domestically and internationally. The city is Vizag, a sleepy town on the east coast of Andhra which boasts over 20 lakh cosmopolitan population, however Vizag has one of the lowest spending power in Hindustan when compared to cities its size.

While the gastronomical revolution is here, so is the technology that will connect it and literally deliver it. Food delivery platforms around the world have changed the way we shop for food. In fact in India they could be the very catalyst of this ongoing food renaissance. For better or worse online food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato have indexed and ranked almost all the food and corresponding eateries in this ancient country. BC is also on Swiggy (as well as Zomato) and we are about to embark on a journey to deliver eclectic tastes to conservative mouths with high expectations. Surviving Swiggy is about Basil Cantina’s good, bad and ugly moments as we see them.
